Applications & Industries / Index 04.1

Four industrial applications. One closed-loop bioconversion platform.

Precision bioconversion for a circular food system — turning organic waste into high-value protein in under 24 hours.

Maggot-P engineers closed-loop systems that process up to 50 tonnes of pre-consumer food waste per day into sterile, EU-compliant larvae protein and frass fertilizer. Each segment below carries its own feedstock profile, daily volume range, and regulatory pathway so procurement and ESG teams can identify their fit on first read.

Segment 01 · Aquaculture feed

Aquaculture feed — the flagship B2B vertical.

Maggot-P is the first commercial-scale operator in the Benelux region to hold EU 2021/1375 authorization for processed animal protein (PAP) in aquaculture feed — certification #PAP-2023-0421.

Target species
Atlantic salmon, European seabass, gilthead seabream, whiteleg shrimp
Daily volume range
5 – 50 t/day feedstock, partner-dependent
Output specification
Defatted larvae meal ≥ 58% crude protein, ≥ 12% lipid (on DM)
Regulatory pathway
EU 2021/1375 — PAP in aquaculture feed (secured)
Indicative contract
€320,000 – €780,000 / year · 24 – 36 month terms
Indicative payback
22 – 28 months on 5,000 t/year contract

Our defatted Hermetia illucens meal displaces soy protein concentrate and fishmeal in grower and finisher diets, with consistent amino-acid profile validated by Wageningen University in a 2023 peer-reviewed study on heavy-metal bioaccumulation thresholds.

Segment 02 · Pet food

Pet food — premium-grade larvae protein and lipid fractions.

A consistent, single-ingredient protein source for hypoallergenic kibble and wet-food lines, with full traceability per batch and EU-compliant microbiological panels.

Product form
Full-fat larvae meal · defatted meal · rendered lipid fraction
Typical inclusion
8 – 25% of finished formula (category-dependent)
Microbiological panel
Salmonella absent in 25 g · Enterobacteriaceae < 10 CFU/g
Regulatory pathway
EU Reg. 2017/893 (PAP for pet food) — applicable since 2017
Indicative contract
€180,000 – €540,000 / year · 12 – 24 month terms
Differentiation
Single-origin batches, blockchain-proven provenance

Pet-food formulators value Hermetia illucens for its palatability and hypoallergenic profile relative to poultry by-product meal. Maggot-P ships lot-controlled meal and lipid fractions with full COA disclosure and on-site traceability back to the receiving feedstock truck.

Methodology

Figures are aggregated from Maggot-P's 14 active B2B contracts as of January 2026. Payback assumes a standard 5,000-tonne/year offtake unless otherwise stated and excludes downstream capex at the partner site.

Audit basis

Throughput and contract values reconciled with Bureau Veritas quarterly audits initiated in Q1 2024 under the integrated traceability stack.

Segments 03 – 04 · Public-sector & corporate valorization

Municipal organic waste and corporate ESG / canteen waste.

Two additional verticals where Maggot-P acts as offtake partner rather than product supplier — converting pre-consumer or separated organic streams into a traceable, audit-ready tonnage that displaces landfill, incineration or fossil-fertilizer use.

Segment 03 · Municipal OFMSW

Municipal organic waste — public-sector offtake at port scale.

Under our active MOU with the Port of Rotterdam, Maggot-P processes an estimated 22,000 tonnes per year of municipal organic-waste streams into frass compliant with EU 2019/1009 fertilizer regulation.

Segment 04 · Corporate ESG / canteen

Corporate ESG — in-house valorization of canteen and prep waste.

For mid-to-large agri-food and HoReCa operators, Maggot-P deploys containerized pre-processing modules that turn canteen and prep waste into a scope-3-reportable diversion stream — cutting waste-disposal costs by up to 62%.
